Breast Check

Last night I was watching a news show and it had a report about a singer with breast cancer. We see this terrible disease effecting gorgeous women every single day. Beautiful and healthy women falling victim to this viscous cancer. We don't know why and we don't know how, it's just one of those heart breaking things in life that leaves us with all the questions in the world and no answers. Unfortunately it saddens my heart that there is no cure for this cancer.  Every day we see advertisements, news reports and billboards reminding us to check our breasts. I used to see these, hear these, think for a few moments and then go along with my daily routine, go along with my life. I know we are drilled by doctors, society, mums, nurses and celebrities to check our selves but for some reason I just never took notice. I am 24 years old and I am not naive enough to know that it couldn't happen to me but stupidly I haven't taken action.  Every 2 years when I get my pap smear my doctor checks my breast but a lot can happen in 2 years and a cancer can grow aggressively in 2 years.

So tonight after a lot of research (thank you google) I did my first breast check! It hurt so much. Maybe I'm pressing too hard but I am sure that over time the muscles in my breasts will get used to the pushing and prodding and it will become a monthly routine. At the moment I am feeling and learning about how they feel and the normal bits and bobs inside the muscles so that i know what is normal. This way if ever (god forbid) I feel an abnormal bump I will know straight away.

We are told every day and by so many different people to know our bodies and listen to our bodies and I feel this is a big step in getting to know your body.

When was the last time you checked your breasts??? Get onto google or ask you doctor and get feeling, learning and checking! It could save your life!!!

It shouldn't hurt too much, you'll find a lump if it's there. They're small, hard and pea like. I had 2 lumps removed before I was 24 and mum had breast cancer so I'm pretty vigilant! Great post, it's good to remind women to keep checking xxoo
